Original vintage pictorial map poster for Scotland featuring various detailed and colourful illustrations with captions including notable landmarks and ancient buildings, mountains and hills, rivers and waterfalls, churches, forts, lakes / lochs, glens, castles, bays, the Scottish Highlands and islands, fishing, people in traditional kilts and tartan dress, the Highland Games, artists, coastlines, towns and cities, horses, cattle, sheep, wild deer and other animals, theatre masks, golf, sailing, hiking, mountain climbing, photography, swimming in the sea, ball games and other sports and activities, mythical and historical events and characters, battle scenes, Celtic crosses, tourists enjoying their holidays, travel by plane, boats and cars with an ornate compass on a shield and the heading - The Islands of the Hebridean Tales and Legends - on a scroll on the sides above with an image of a young couple running towards Gretna Green being chased by a horse drawn carriage on the border with England below, the wheel of the carriage linked to the miles scale marker. Gretna Green became a well known destination for runaway marriages following the 1753 Marriage Act in England and Wales whereby a parent could stop a marriage of a child under 21 years old; the age of marriage in Scotland at the time was 14 years old for boys and 12 years old for girls, and didn't require consent of their parents. Good condition, folds, restored tears, small restored paper losses, staining, printing on reverse side visible, backed on linen.

What is a lithograph?

Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.

With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.

Where do you deliver to?

We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
