Anchor Day Thank You British Sailors WWII
Original vintage World War Two charity appeal poster for Anchor Day on 10th September 1940, raising funds throughout the Metropolitan Police Area in aid of The British Sailors' Society. Designed by Helen McKie (1889-1957), the poster features a cheerful British sailor standing with folded arms next to a senior naval officer, with a steamship navigating rough seas under a golden stylised world map in the background. The text below in bold red and blue lettering announces the event under the patronage of Their Majesties the King and Queen and Her Majesty Queen Mary, encouraging the public to - Let London Say on Anchor Day 'Thank You British Sailors' - with the charity's crowned emblem at the top and anchor logo in the lower left corner. Printed by The Dangerfield Printing Co. Ltd., London. Good condition, restored tears, restored pinholes, restored creasing, restored paper losses, staining, backed on linen.

What is a lithograph?
Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
