Good Hard Graft Wins A War WWII

£350.00

Original vintage World War Two workplace Home Front motivation propaganda poster featuring a cartoon story in rhymes with each poem accompanied by images - How easy-going Alf was taught The way that People's Wars are fought. Alfred was a cheerful lad Whenever things looked really bad He grinned and said "We'll muddle through." (I know the kind of chap, don't you?) The war broke out, and one by one He saw the countries overrun, But as each nation was defeated "It cannot happen here," he bleated. One dark night a fascist bomb Dropped right on top of Alfred's home. Wow, that did it! From that night He saw things in a different light. What a change in Alfred's manner! Cried he, "My kingdom for a spanner! Give me a chance to have a crack At battering those Nazis back!" The next day at a local factory Alfred was making guns for victory. As for his wife, who shared his view, She went and got a job there, too. Forgetting his unworthy past he's doing a real, right job at last. And says to all his friends, "You see, I'm not the fool I used to be." No one with half a grain of sense needs such unpleasant arguments to demonstrate this simple law - It's good hard graft that wins a War. The six images show Alf leaning back and lounging on his chair with a leg up on his desk and a cup of tea on the table whilst two other people are hard at work at their desks in front of a door marked Manager; Alf reading a newspaper with the headline France Falls as his wife is knitting in front of a fireplace; Alfred in his bowler hat looking very angry in front of flames from a fire bomb that's destroyed his home; then kicking over his chair and desk at work to the surprise of his colleagues and boss; Alfred happily working with his wife in a munitions factory; and smiling in his overalls looking up at RAF planes and military tanks in the distance, a box of bombs in front of him ready for war. Issued by the Communist Party of Great Britain. Printed by F.D. Hull Printers, London. Good condition, creasing, tears.

FAQs

More information about our posters and service.

Are your posters originals?

All antique and vintage posters listed on our website are guaranteed originals as detailed in their photographs and descriptions, and include a certificate of authenticity.

What is a lithograph?

Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.

With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.

Where do you deliver to?

We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
