LT Ornithologist London Transport Nari Madon
Original vintage advertising poster commissioned by London Transport to encourage Londoners and visitors to explore the capital's royal parks and open green spaces for birdwatching, featuring a vibrant graphic artwork by Nari Madon (1929-2017) of a dense, colourful botanical and wildlife composition featuring an array of British wild birds nestled among blooming flora, including a goldfinch perched atop a branch, a robin, a swooping swallow, a blue tit, a thrush, a lapwing, and a moorhen, with stylised, multi-coloured blossoms in shades of marigold orange, bright red, deep blue, and magenta pink against an atmospheric, pale turquoise background. The text below reads - The Ornithologist finds more in London than the sweep of starlings into Trafalgar Square, pigeons and sparrows outside the office window. By all means take binoculars into the country, but remember many species grow tamer in London, and the beginner, in lunch time strolls round the Parks, can amass an impressive list of wild birds. Try a different Park each day and compare your observations. Printed by the Baynard Press. Good condition, large restored tears on image, restored pinholes, staining, backed on linen.

FAQs

Are your posters originals?
All antique and vintage posters listed on our website are guaranteed originals as detailed in their photographs and descriptions, and include a certificate of authenticity.
What is a lithograph?
Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
Can I visit your gallery?
Yes. Our gallery is based in London. Our address is 404 King's Road, Chelsea, London SW10 0LJ.
Our opening hours are Monday-Friday 10am-6pm; Saturday 11am-5pm (by appointment only on Sundays and bank holidays*).
