Original antique travel advertising poster - Fore! Gleneagles The Golf Course the Great in Scotland - featuring a stunning design by Harry Rountree (1878-1950), depicting a majestic eagle perched on the pinnacle of a rock with its wings spread out wide in front of a view of the sunlit mountain peaks of the Scottish Highlands in the background, the bold stylised lettering diagonally above and with the title on the margin below. Issued by The Caledonian Railway (1845-1923) to promote travel by train for sporting holidays to the luxury Gleneagles golf course in Auchterarder Perthshire. Gleneagles was created by the Engineer-in-Chief and Manager of the Caledonian Railway Donald Matheson (1860-1935) and designed by champion golfer James Braid (1870-1950), opening in 1919. Good condition, restored folds, restored tears, restored paper losses, restored staining, restored paper skimming, minor staining, backed on linen.

What is a lithograph?
Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
