Original vintage travel advertising poster for India issued by the national carrier Air-India featuring a colourful and fun mid-century illustration by Walter Grieder (1914-2004) of the airline's iconic mascot the Maharajah (created in 1946 by Bobby Kooka and Umesh Rao) depicted with the face of a smiling tiger wearing a traditional striped turban and a white military uniform with red and gold shoulder pads, sitting cross-legged and holding a rifle gun across his lap while riding on a ceremonial elephant adorned with decorative floral patterns, the bold title text above and below. Printed in India at The New Jack Printing Works Pvt Ltd. Good condition, restored tears, staining, backed on linen.

Are your posters originals?
All antique and vintage posters listed on our website are guaranteed originals as detailed in their photographs and descriptions, and include a certificate of authenticity.
What is a lithograph?
Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.

Our opening hours are Monday-Friday 10am-6pm; Saturday 11am-5pm (by appointment only on Sundays and bank holidays*).
