Leopoldville Air Congo

£2,750.00

Original vintage Africa travel poster for the national airline Air Congo, promoting flights to Léopoldville (now Kinshasa), featuring mid-century design by the Belgian artist Gastón van den Eynde (1892-1965), featuring a portrait of a Congolese lady wearing a headscarf and beaded necklace against a vibrant red background, with a modern jet airliner soaring past a sleek skyscraper and a bustling market scene below. Air Congo was established in 1961 as the flag carrier for the Congolese Republic, supported with equipment and technical aid from Sabena. Based in Leopoldville (now Kinshasa), the airline operated long-haul flights to Europe and regional routes across South Africa, Uganda, Angola, Kenya, and Zambia. Following the country's renaming to the Republic of Zaire in 1971, the carrier was renamed Air Zaïre. Printed in Belgium by Marci. Good condition, creasing, tears, minor staining.

FAQs

More information about our posters and service.

Are your posters originals?

All antique and vintage posters listed on our website are guaranteed originals as detailed in their photographs and descriptions, and include a certificate of authenticity.

What is a lithograph?

Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.

With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.

Where do you deliver to?

We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
