PLM Paris Zermatt Mont-Rose
Original antique French train travel poster designed by the celebrated painter and early transit illustrator Frédéric Hugo d'Alési (1849-1906), advertising scenic train routes operated by the Paris-Lyon-Méditerranée P.L.M. railway - Services directs entre Paris & Zermatt (Mont-Rose) / Direct services between Paris and Zermatt (Monte Rosa). The poster features a collage of alpine vistas dominated by a towering, snow-capped view of the Matterhorn Le Mont Cervin soaring into the clouds, with inset vignettes depicting mountaineers embarking on high-altitude hikes, a train winding under a stone viaduct near Neubruck, and a tranquil sunset over Le Lac Noir. The scene is dramatically framed on the left by an ornate shield bearing the star-studded Valais coat of arms, a traditional wooden alpine horn wrapped in alpine flowers. The text below provides details regarding direct 20-hour transit times and ticket fare classes via Dijon, Pontarlier, and Lausanne. Printed by Imp. A. Bellier & Cie, Bordeaux. Good condition, restored folds, restored tears, restored paper losses, staining, backed on linen.

FAQs
More information about our posters and service.
Are your posters originals?
All antique and vintage posters listed on our website are guaranteed originals as detailed in their photographs and descriptions, and include a certificate of authenticity.
What is a lithograph?
Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
