LT Royal London St. James's Palace London Transport

£450.00

Original vintage set of two posters titled Royal London - St. James's Palace, designed by artist David Lewis for London Transport, capturing the pageantry of post-war Britain to celebrate the coronation year of Queen Elizabeth II. The first poster combines rich historical narrative with striking graphic elements, framed at the top by the Tudor brick battlements of the palace and anchored at the bottom by a stylised line-up of the Queen's Guard, scarlet-coated sentries, and ceremonial heralds, the text provides an evocative history of the palace from the reign of Henry VIII to its 20th-century traditions, alongside a visitor's transit guide to neighbouring landmarks like Chapels Royal, Clarence House, Green Park, Marlborough House, Pall Mall, and St. James's Street. The striking visual companion poster features a composition dominated by a large engraved ceremonial halberd decorated with scrollwork patterns and a vibrant red and yellow studded shaft, set against a dramatic deep blue sky, with the historic Tudor red brick clock tower and gatehouse of St. James's Palace standing prominently in the background, showcasing its classic architectural lines and gold-faced clock. Printed by Waterlow & Sons, London & Dunstable. Good condition, folds, creasing, tears, pinholes, staining, tape on reverse corners.

FAQs

More information about our posters and service.

Are your posters originals?

All antique and vintage posters listed on our website are guaranteed originals as detailed in their photographs and descriptions, and include a certificate of authenticity.

What is a lithograph?

Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.

With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.

Where do you deliver to?

We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
