Original vintage London Transport travel poster titled Dome or Steeple, featuring design by the renowned British artist and designer Denys Arthur Nicholls (1914-1996), framed by highly unique graphic borders at the top and bottom, of a medieval-inspired pictorial vignette of Gargoyle figures with pigeons and architectural structures, the text in the centre lists notable Great Churches and Village Churches - such as St. Albans Cathedral, St. Paul's Cathedral, Southwark Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, Westminster Cathedral, and village churches in Greensted, Harefield, Little Missenden, Stoke d'Abernon, and Stoke Poges, complete with transport route information via Green Line coaches and London Underground lines. The footer border is adorned with an intricate, multi-panelled mosaic of stained-glass windows, stone carvings, and church features. Printed in Great Britain by The Baynard Press. Good condition, folds, creasing, pinholes, tears, minor staining, small paper loss in bottom right corner.

What is a lithograph?

Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.

With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.

Where do you deliver to?

We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
