Britain London St Paul's Cathedral

£750.00

Original vintage travel advertising poster published by the British Travel and Holidays Association (one in a series produced to encourage tourism in Britain after the World War Two by celebrating some of London's most famous historical landmarks) featuring a great painting by Donald C. Towner ARCA (Donald Chisholm Towner; 1903-1985) depicting a scenic view of the historic St Paul's Cathedral rising into the sky with two ladies wearing colourful summer dresses walking in the park and gardens in the foreground, the title and information text below - Britain London during the Second World War, when the fire and destruction laid waste all around, St. Paul's Cathedral survived as by a miracle; and when the smoke and dust had cleared away, Londoners saw their cathedral as they had never seen it before. Released from the encroachments of commerce and a hubbub of warehouses, it looked more beautiful than ever. It is Sir Christopher Wren's greatest work and took him thirty-five years to build, 1675-1710. Printed in Great Britain by Chromoworks Limited. Good condition, creasing, staining.

FAQs

More information about our posters and service.

Are your posters originals?

All antique and vintage posters listed on our website are guaranteed originals as detailed in their photographs and descriptions, and include a certificate of authenticity.

What is a lithograph?

Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.

With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.

Where do you deliver to?

We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
