Playa De Madrid Beach Art Deco Lady Diver
Rare original vintage travel poster advertising the Playa de Madrid a quince minutos de la Puerta del Sol / Beach of Madrid fifteen minutes from the Gate of the Sun - featuring a stylish Art Deco design by the Spanish artist Leon Gerardo Luis Quintanilla (1893-1978) showing an elegant lady in a fashionable yellow swimsuit with blue bands on it, blue strapped shoes and a yellow swim hat, on a diving board ready to dive into the blue water with a view of the Madrid city skyline in the background. The Beach of Madrid / La Playa de Madrid opened in 1932, located on the banks of the Manzanares River near the capital city; it was the first artificial sandy beach and recreational complex in Spain with seaside leisure facilities that included swimming pools, sun loungers, rowing and other water sports, tennis courts, food and drink stalls and a dance floor; although popular for bathers and holiday makers, the beach fell into disrepair with the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War in 1936 and flooding in 1947, and was closed in 1954. The Puerta del Sol is an historic public square in the centre of Madrid. Excellent condition after restoration, restored missing parts on the left and right of the poster, restored minor loss and tears in image, backed on linen.

FAQs
More information about our posters and service.
Are your posters originals?
All antique and vintage posters listed on our website are guaranteed originals as detailed in their photographs and descriptions, and include a certificate of authenticity.
What is a lithograph?
Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
