Original vintage Asia travel poster for Aizu Higashiyama 會津東山 in Fukushima featuring a stunning image of an Aizu samurai of the Tokugawa Shogunate of Japan 日本 in black and white clothing leaning on his sword as he stands under colourful red and yellow autumn tree leaf foliage, looking over the scenic valley view to hills in the distance. Known for its onsen / hot springs and popular with the Aizu samurai during the Edo period, Aizu Higashiyama was opened in the late 8th century, said to have been established by the Buddhist priest 行基 Gyoki during the Tenpyo era when he discovered the spot by following a bird with three legs. Issued by Higashiyama Tourism Association. Printed by Toppan Printing Co., Ltd., Sendai Factory Printing. Good condition, creasing, large repaired tears, minor staining, backed on old linen.

What is a lithograph?

Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.

With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.

Where do you deliver to?

We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
