Original vintage post-World War Two map poster for Norfolk England featuring a colourful design by Ernest Costain Clegg (1876-1954) of the ceremonial county with illustrations of notable landmarks and tourist locations including the historic City of Norwich and Sandringham with insignias and coats of arms as well as notable historical figures and locations including Admiral Lord Nelson (1758-1805), the role of the Cromer Lifeboat Station during WWII, the Marquis Townshend (Charles Townshend, 2nd Viscount Townshend aka Turnip Townshend of Raynham 1724-1807) and the Earl of Leicester (Thomas William Coke, 1st Earl of Leicester aka Coke of Holkham 1754-1842), information on military bases, the Womens' Land Army and British farms, agriculture and food including fruit, potatoes, root seed crops, lavender, barley, sugar beet and wheat with a quote by Winston Churchill dated 4 June 1940 - We shall defend our island whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills, we shall never surrender - with boats and ships at sea, as well as roads, castles, trees and rivers marked. What is a lithograph?
Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
