The 1931 United Kingdom general election held during the Great Depression (1929-1939) was won by the all-party National Government (1931-1935) coalition formed by the statesman and politician James Ramsay MacDonald (1866-1937; Prime Minister 1924 and 1929-1931) from members of the Conservative Party, Liberals (Liberal National and Liberal) and National Labour Party as well as individuals, to fix the economy and growing unemployment in particular addressing the issues of strikes, the coal industry and poverty as well as international trade tariffs and military budgets.
