Pearsons July Belle Epoque
Original antique advertising poster for the July issue of Pearson's magazine featuring Cutcliffe Hyne's new novel The Lost Continent - 4 color plates - Increased size - 10 cents. Colourful Belle Epoque illustration by the American artist Ernest Haskell (1876-1925) depicting a fashionable young lady leaning on the Pearsons advertisement reading a copy of the magazine. Ernest Haskell was noted for his etchings, engravings, pen and ink drawings, lithographs and watercolours and was an early pioneer of theatre posters; during World War One he was commissioned by the United States Army to develop camouflage painting. Pearson's was a monthly magazine founded in 1896 by the notable British publisher Sir Cyril Arthur Pearson (1866-1921), running until 1939; the US version ran from 1899-1925. Printed in U.S.A. by H.A. Thomas & Wylie Lith. Co. New York. Good condition, restored folds, repaired tears in margins. Backed on linen.

What is a lithograph?
Practically all of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves carving each colour of the image onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, we believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £25 for orders placed via our website.
Can I visit your gallery?
Yes. Our gallery is based in London. Our address is 404 King's Road, Chelsea, London SW10 0LJ.
Our opening hours are Monday-Friday 10am-6pm; Saturday 11am-5pm (by appointment only on Sundays and bank holidays*).
