French Can Can Rene Gruau
Original vintage movie poster for a musical comedy drama film - French Cancan - written and directed by Jean Renoir and starring Jean Gabin, Francoise Arnoul and Maria Felix with appearances by famous French singers including Edith Piaf, Patachou, Andre Claveau and Jean Raymond. Colourful artwork by the notable graphic artist Rene Gruau (Renato de Zavagli; 1909-2004), in a style reminiscent of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec's Moulin Rouge art, depicting dancers on stage with blue and green feather in their hats, singing and dancing the can-can, holding up their billowing layered skirts and kicking out their legs in black stockings with silhouettes of smartly dressed ladies and gentlemen in top hats in the background, the bold stylised title text and credits below. Printed by Richier-Laugier, Paris. Large size. Good condition, restored folds, restored tears, small restored paper losses, staining, backed on old linen.

Are your posters originals?

What is a lithograph?
Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
