Original antique Russian advertising poster for the popular illustrated weekly literary and cultural magazine Niva / Нива, announcing the open subscription period for the year 1899. The intricate Art Nouveau-influenced illustration by Elena Samokysh-Sudkovskaya (1863-1924) features a lady in classical attire walking through a wooded grove, set against a stylised rising-sun motif framed by climbing leaves, bold red banner below highlights the inclusion of a free complete collection of works by the celebrated Russian author Ivan Goncharov, lettering on the right lists the extensive materials subscribers will receive throughout the year, including 52 issues of Niva magazine, 12 volumes of Goncharov's works, 12 literary supplements, 12 issues of Parisian fashion updates, 12 sheets of needlework/craft patterns, and a wall calendar printed in colour, the lower portion displays pricing tiers and magazine office address. Are your posters originals?
All antique and vintage posters listed on our website are guaranteed originals as detailed in their photographs and descriptions, and include a certificate of authenticity.
What is a lithograph?
Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
