Orpheus at Whipsnade Zoo Herry Perry
Original vintage advertising poster for Whipsnade Zoo - Orpheus at Whipsnade - featuring a colorful illustration by the notable English artist and illustrator Herry Perry (Heather Perry; 1893-1962) reimagining the classical Greek myth depicting a man in a yellow shirt and beige trousers, charming a circle of zoo animals by playing a pipe including a large standing North American black bear, a camel, a kangaroo, a lion, a parrot, a fox, a duck, an ostrich, a deer, and a rabbit. A stylised, winding yellow banner flows through the trees above. Opened in 1931 as Europe’s first open-paddock zoo, Whipsnade was a pioneering wildlife park advertised heavily by the London Underground network. In Greek mythology, Orpheus was a legendary musician and prophet with the ability to charm all living things with his music. Drawn on Stone by Herry Perry finished on the feast of S. Gregory 1933. Printed by Vincent Brooks, Day & Son Ltd., London. Good condition, restored tears, restored paper losses, staining, trimmed bottom edge, backed on linen.

FAQs
More information about our posters and service.
Are your posters originals?
All antique and vintage posters listed on our website are guaranteed originals as detailed in their photographs and descriptions, and include a certificate of authenticity.
What is a lithograph?
Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
