Wool In National Dress Ecuador

The Andes, dividing the coastal strip from the interior, are volcanic and include Cotopaxi, highest active volcano in the world (19,6123 ft.). In a temperature around 80F., the Indians stay cool in wool. The gaily coloured Poncho is a blanket worn cape-fashion with a hole for the head. Going to market, mother wears a sling in which she carries commodities for sale, her subsequent purchases - and baby too! Rice and bananas replace our bread and potatoes on her shopping list. There are plenty of small, but delicious oranges. Wool, too, is sold in its natural state, and the women sit spinning while waiting for customers. Ecuador is famous for its "Panama" hats.
