Wool In National Dress Poland

£275.00

Original vintage poster from the Wool in National Dress series featuring a colourful image by Drake Brookshaw (1907-1993) depicting a lady and a child wearing traditional dress of striped skirts and aprons, a floral pattern top and yellow headscarves, herding geese in front of a sheep and man wearing a hat in the background, an image of the world showing where Poland is marked with a red arrow on a globe next to the title in red and information below: Poland means land of the plains. At one time a region of forests, much has now been cleared and turned into arable and pasture land. Through the heart of Poland flows the river Vistula on which stands the capital, Warsaw. Absence of natural boundaries has left the country prey to invaders - it has been the battle-ground of Eastern Europe. From 1795 to 1918 the Poles were a people without a country. Not the least factor in holding them together as a nation during these dark years was the National costume, based on the stiff wide skirt of coarsely woven wool, usually covered with a heavy contrasting apron. Much of the wool used is from sheep raised in the Lowicz district, famous for its brilliant dyes. The sheepskin coats worn by the men have the soft clipped wool inside. Issued by the International Wool Secretariat. Fair condition, creasing, tears, staining, fold.

FAQs

More information about our posters and service.

Are your posters originals?

All antique and vintage posters listed on our website are guaranteed originals as detailed in their photographs and descriptions, and include a certificate of authenticity.

What is a lithograph?

Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.

With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.

Where do you deliver to?

We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
