Original antique travel advertising poster for the 1911 International Travel and Tourism Exhibition - Internationale Ausstellung fur Reise und Fremdenverkehr Berlin 1911 Ausstellungshallen am Zoologischen Garten - held from 18 March to 15 May in the Exhibition Halls at the Berlin Zoological Garden (the oldest zoo in Germany; opened 1844) featuring artwork by the German graphic designer and lithographer Hans Rudi Erdt (1883-1918) depicting a well dressed gentleman wearing a long yellow coat, cap, smart shoes and striped tie, smoking a pipe and holding a book behind his back, walking past arched buildings with the text in stylised lettering above and on the side. This event was the world's first tourism fair, organised by the Verband Berliner Kaufleute und Industrielle / Association of Berlin Merchants and Industrialists. Printed by Hollerbaum & Schmidt, Berlin. Good condition, restored tears, restored creasing, backed on linen.

What is a lithograph?
Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
