Michelin Bibendum Pneu Velo O'Galop
Original antique advertising poster for Michelin Pneu Velo bicycle tyres featuring a classic illustration by the French cartoonist Marius Rossillon (known as O’Galop; 1867-1946) showing the trademark Bibendum character (the iconic Michelin Man figure made from tires) riding a bike and smoking a cigar against a blue background with the stylised text in yellow letters: Le Meilleur Le Moins Cher / The Best The Cheapest. The French tyre manufacturer Michelin was founded in 1889 by two brothers Edouard and Andre Michelin; the Bibendum / Michelin Man character was created in 1898 by O'Galop using an earlier idea he had for a Munich brewery combined with Andre Michelin's idea in 1894 of using tyres as a figure. Printed in Paris. Fair condition, restored creases, restored tears, restored paper losses, staining, foxing, backed on linen.

More information about our posters and service.
Are your posters originals?
All our antique and vintage posters, books, maps and prints listed on our website are guaranteed originals as detailed in their photographs and descriptions, and include a certificate of authenticity.
What is a lithograph?
Practically all of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves carving each colour of the image onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, we believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £25 for orders placed via our website.
