Original vintage lithograph poster issued by London Underground to promote museums in London - The Treasure Houses of London: Victoria and Albert Museum (South Kensington or Brompton Road station), Natural History Museum (South Kensington stn), Science Museum (South Kensington stn), British Museum (Holborn or British Museums stations), London Museum (Dover Street or St James's Park). Places where on wet days it is dry and comfortable. Travel by Underground - featuring a stunning Asian style design by the portrait painter and artist Freda Beard of an Oriental dragon on a black background from a figure on a Japanese cloisonne enamel vase with the text and London Transport roundel logo below. Freda Beard exhibited at the Royal Academy and designed posters for London Underground from 1921-1926; her artwork was used for a variety of other poster designs, including the 1924 British Empire Exhibition and the Royal Mail Line shipping company. Published by Underground Electric Railway Company Ltd, 1921, printed by Vincent Brooks, Day & Son Ltd. Very good condition, repaired minor tears and losses on margins, backed on linen.

What is a lithograph?
Practically all of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves carving each colour of the image onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, we believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £25 for orders placed via our website.
Can I visit your gallery?
Yes. Our gallery is based in London. Our address is 404 King's Road, Chelsea, London SW10 0LJ.
Our opening hours are Monday-Friday 10am-6pm; Saturday 11am-5pm (by appointment only on Sundays and bank holidays*).
