London Horse Guards LMS Canada Royal Visit

£2,500.00

Original vintage poster entitled London The Horse Guards originally issued by the LMS London Midland and Scottish railway and re-issued in 1939 by the outfitters FW Forsyth Ltd (established 1872) - Reproduced by permission to Commemorate their Majesties' Visit to Canada May 15 to June 15, 1939 - featuring artwork by the painter and poster artist Christopher Clark (1875-1942) depicting the King's Life Guard regiment of the Household Cavalry in colourful ceremonial uniform on their troop horses at Horse Guards Parade in London with a description below on the history of the Horse Guards and the ceremony of Trooping of the Colour with the LMS logos and wax seal logo of The Guaranteed Forsyth Shirt on both sides and on the image above. The annual tradition of Trooping the Colour dates back to before the 17th century; since 1748 the ceremony has been held to mark the official birthday of the British sovereign in June. Horse Guards Parade is located next to St James' Park and Whitehall in central London; jousting and other tournaments have regularly been held on the site since the time of Henry VIII (1491-1547) and where Charles II (1630-1685) stabled his troop horses; the area is now used for this annual parade and other ceremonies. Horizontal. Large size. Good condition, restored tears, restored creasing, backed on linen.

More information about our posters and service.

Are your posters originals?

All our antique and vintage posters, books, maps and prints listed on our website are guaranteed originals as detailed in their photographs and descriptions, and include a certificate of authenticity.

What is a lithograph?

Practically all of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves carving each colour of the image onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.

With the exception of silk printing, we believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.

Where do you deliver to?

We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £25 for orders placed via our website.
