Original vintage travel poster issued by Air Ceylon - Fly the Sapphire Service to London - featuring artwork by Mart Kempers (1924-1993) depicting a busy London city street scene with a delivery van, a taxi laden with tourist luggage and passengers sitting on an iconic red double decker bus in the foreground, lit up the glowing street lights with a clock on the buildings in the background, a plane flying by the bold title text in the night sky above and the Air Ceylon logo below. Founded in 1947 Air Ceylon was the national flag carrier until 1979; it was replaced by by Air Lanka (now Sri Lankan Airlines). Printed in the Netherlands by Kuhn En Zoon, Rotterdam. Good condition, restored tears, restored creasing, backed on linen.

Are your posters originals?
All our antique and vintage posters, books, maps and prints listed on our website are guaranteed originals as detailed in their photographs and descriptions, and include a certificate of authenticity.
What is a lithograph?
Practically all of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves carving each colour of the image onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, we believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £25 for orders placed via our website.
Can I visit your gallery?
Yes. Our gallery is based in London. Our address is 404 King's Road, Chelsea, London SW10 0LJ.
Our opening hours are Monday-Friday 10am-6pm; Saturday 11am-5pm (by appointment only on Sundays and bank holidays*).
