Klondike March Century

Sold

Original antique advertising poster: Klondike March Century. Great image showing three men with hiking sticks, hats and backpacks climbing a mountain in the snow with the stylised text printed vertically on the left and below. Artwork signed by the initial W (possibly Charles Herbert Woodbury; 1864-1940). The Century was a successful 19th century illustrated American publication that ran from 1881 to 1930. This March 1898 issue of The Century magazine featured two prominent articles on the Klondike: The Rush to the Klondike over the Mountain Passes by the American photographer and ethnologist Edward S. Curtis (Edward Sheriff Curtis; 1868-1952) and The River Trip to the Klondike by John Sidney Webb. The Klondike Gold Rush 1896-1899: in August 1896, gold was discovered in the Yukon region of Canada, which led to an estimated 100,000 prospectors attempting the notoriously difficult journey there to make their fortune (out of which only an estimated 30,000 are thought to have made it); the period is known for the stampede of 1897-98. Fair condition, restored tears and loss on margins, folds, backed on linen.

FAQs

More information about our posters and service.

Are your posters originals?

All our antique and vintage posters, books, maps and prints listed on our website are guaranteed originals as detailed in their photographs and descriptions, and include a certificate of authenticity.

What is a lithograph?

Practically all of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves carving each colour of the image onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.

With the exception of silk printing, we believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.

Where do you deliver to?

We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £25 for orders placed via our website.
