Original vintage pictorial map poster for the Isle of Skye featuring detailed fun and colourful illustrations with a railway and route map on the islands and places marked on scrolls, people fishing, sailing, weaving, a farmer milking a cow, a musician playing the bagpipes and man dancing in traditional tartan kilts, people swimming, climbing mountains, camping and hiking, farming, various animals including sheep, deer and Highland cows, seals and a lobster, mermaids and an octopus, tourists enjoying their holidays, boats, a lighthouse, Celtic cross, food and drink, fishermen, boats and Viking ships at sea, a Scottish flag on a castle and the date 1580 on crossed swords at the site of the historic Battle of Trumpan and the coat of arms for the two dominant Scottish clans on the Isle of Skye at that time - MacLeod and MacDonald - represented by the bull's head crest and motto Hold Fast of MacLeod by Loch Snizort above, and the eagle and ship crest of MacDonald held by the outline of a lady next to the Sound of Sleat below, the outline of a man and a sailing ship on the side, an ornate compass and an artist painting the decorative title lettering with two seahorses below. The Isle of Skye is located off the west coast of Scotland in the Inner Hebrides. Good condition, restored folds, backed on linen.

What is a lithograph?

Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.

With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.

Where do you deliver to?

We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
