Guinness Carroll Alice In Wonderland Father William
Original vintage Guinness advertising poster featuring a fun and rare Alice In Wonderland illustration by the notable artist John Gilroy (John Thomas Young Gilroy; 1898-1985) based on a poem by the well-known English writer Lewis Carroll (Charles Lutwidge Dodgson; 1832-1898) You Are Old, Father William from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (1865) - A Guinness Carroll ("Some of the words have got altered," said Alice) "You are old, Father William," the young man said, "And yet you're remarkably fit; You sleep from the moment you get into bed, Which is rare at your age, you'll admit." / "In my youth," said the Sage, "I heard many reports That Guinness brought rest to the brain, Since when, if depressed or a bit out of sorts, I've drunk it again and again." / "Yes, I see," said the Youth, "but there's one other thing In which I am most interested. You've consumed a repast rich enough for a king; Pray, how d'you contrive to digest it?" / "In my youth," said his father, "the Guinness I drank Kept me free from interior strife; And the fitness for which I've got Guinness to thank Has lasted the rest of my life." Guinness is Good for You - depicting a colourful image of a young man standing next to a table and an elderly gentleman sitting down, holding up a pint of Guinness at the top, and a smaller image showing the young man holding a pitch fork with his happy and fit father dancing a jig on the side. FAQs
More information about our posters and service.
Are your posters originals?
All antique and vintage posters listed on our website are guaranteed originals as detailed in their photographs and descriptions, and include a certificate of authenticity.
What is a lithograph?
Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
