Original vintage cruise travel advertising poster - Greece Crete Palace of Cnossos on the Greek Line T.S.S. Olympia - featuring a colourful illustration of the ancient Minoan Palace of Knossos in Heraklion on the Mediterranean Sea island of Crete, depicting red columns and a bird mural (most likely the partridge fresco) with decorative pots in this Bronze Age archaeological site, a view of trees and hills in the distance with the title above and cruise ship text on the side. Founded in 1939 the Greek Line (formally the General Steam Navigation Company of Greece), operated transatlantic and tourist passenger services until it was declared bankrupt in 1975. Built by Alexander Stephen & Sons in 1953 for the Greek Line, the ocean liner Olympia became one of the longest serving passenger ships in history (she changed hands and was renamed numerous times after 1975 before being scrapped in 2009). Printed in Greece by The Phoenix, Athens. Good condition, restored tears, creasing, staining, creasing, backed on linen.

Are your posters originals?
All our antique and vintage posters, books, maps and prints listed on our website are guaranteed originals as detailed in their photographs and descriptions, and include a certificate of authenticity.
What is a lithograph?
Practically all of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves carving each colour of the image onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, we believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £25 for orders placed via our website.
Can I visit your gallery?
Yes. Our gallery is based in London. Our address is 404 King's Road, Chelsea, London SW10 0LJ.
Our opening hours are Monday-Friday 10am-6pm; Saturday 11am-5pm (by appointment only on Sundays and bank holidays*).
