Original antique poster for The Cosmopolitan An Illustrated Monthly Magazine October 1895 advertising the contents of the issue including the headline article - The Last of the Jungle Stories by Rudyard Kipling - featuring an intricate Art Nouveau design with a scene from the Jungle Book showing a child sitting on a rock with a bear, leopard, wolf and snake beneath a full moon and an image of a man in a suit standing with his arms crossed in a forest looking up at a ghostly figure of a lady in front of the trees, the articles listed around the images with a decorative border including the words America Europe Asia Africa Oceanica on the side and Volume XIX Number 6 Illustrated by Cabrinety, Osterlind, Drake, Denman, Carter Beard and Kemble in bold red letters below. First published in 1886 The Cosmopolitan was a family magazine run by Paul Schlicht in New York; this issue was edited by John Brisben Walker (1847-1931) who bought the magazine in 1889 and transformed it into a literary magazine; in 1905 it was bought by William Randolph Hearst (1863-1951) and is now a popular women's monthly fashion, lifestyle and entertainment magazine Cosmopolitan (also known as Cosmo) under Hearst Communications. Written by Joseph Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936), The Jungle Book was first published in magazines as a series of stories from 1893, inspired by the author's childhood in India. Good condition, restored tears, restored paper losses, minor staining, backed on linen.

What is a lithograph?
Practically all of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves carving each colour of the image onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, we believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £25 for orders placed via our website.

Our opening hours are Monday-Friday 10am-6pm; Saturday 11am-5pm (by appointment only on Sundays and bank holidays*).
