Billiard Match Edwardian Snooker Romance
Original antique poster featuring a set of illustrations titled A Billiard Match by the British artist and illustrator Lance Thackeray (1867-1916). Published in 1902 by Landeker & Brown Ltd. London, the artwork consists of four humorous comic panels that cleverly use billiard terms as double entendres for Edwardian-era courtship and romance. The four distinct scenes depicted are: LEFT: Featuring a lady leaning over the table to make a shot while a man looks on. KISSING: Presenting the couple embracing and kissing by the cue rack (in billiards, a "kiss" occurs when two balls touch lightly). THE CANON: Depicting a stern, older gentleman unexpectedly entering the room (a "cannon" or "canon" is a specific multi-ball shot in billiards). SNOOKERED: Showing the romantic couple obstructed by presence of the older gentleman, preventing further flirtation. Good condition, creasing, tears, bumps on edges, tape on reverse edges.

Are your posters originals?
All antique and vintage posters listed on our website are guaranteed originals as detailed in their photographs and descriptions, and include a certificate of authenticity.
What is a lithograph?
Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
