Ashes and Diamonds Andrzej Wajda
Original vintage Soviet movie poster for the 1958 Polish war film Пепел и алмаз / Ashes and Diamonds / Popiół i diament directed by Andrzej Wajda (1926-2016), based on the 1948 novel by the Polish writer Jerzy Andrzejewski (1909-1983) and starring Zbigniew Cybulski and Ewa Krzyzewska, Waclaw Zastrzezynski. Dynamic artwork featuring a man in glasses shaded in black and grey running on the side with the title and text in stylised black and red letters. Ashes and Diamonds completed Wajda's war films trilogy of A Generation (1954) and Kanal (1956), the title from a 19th century poem by the Polish poet Cyprian Norwid (1821-1883) referencing the formation of diamonds from heat and pressure on coal; this film is considered by critics to be one of the great masterpieces of Polish cinema and arguably the finest Polish realist film, which has also been cited as one of the favourite films of Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola and voted the 86th best film of all time in a Village Voice poll. Good condition, pinholes in corners, restored fold and repaired tears.

FAQs
More information about our posters and service.
Are your posters originals?
All our antique and vintage posters, books, maps and prints listed on our website are guaranteed originals as detailed in their photographs and descriptions, and include a certificate of authenticity.
What is a lithograph?
Practically all of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves carving each colour of the image onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, we believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £25 for orders placed via our website.
