Original vintage movie poster distributed in the United States in 1960 by United Artists at the request of the U.S. Department of State in connection with its cultural exchange agreement with the Soviet Union for the epic Soviet film about a Cossack village during World War One, the Russian Revolution and the Civil War from 1912-1922, based on the classic novel by the Nobel Prize winning author Mikhail Sholokhov (1905-1984) - And Quiet Flows the Don (Тихий Дон / Tikhiy Don) - directed by Sergei Gerasimov and starring Pyotr Glebov, Elina Bystritskaya and Zinaida Kirienko. Great design featuring a black and white sketch of a man charging forward on his horse and holding a sword above his head, the drawing over an extract in Russian of the original text of the novel in blue, the title on the left in bold red letters and the credits below in black letters. Good condition, restored folds and minor loss, backed on linen.

What is a lithograph?
Practically all of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves carving each colour of the image onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, we believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £25 for orders placed via our website.
Can I visit your gallery?
Yes. Our gallery is based in London. Our address is 404 King's Road, Chelsea, London SW10 0LJ.
Our opening hours are Monday-Friday 10am-6pm; Saturday 11am-5pm (by appointment only on Sundays and bank holidays*).
