Marshal Lyautey French Empire Builder Morocco


Original vintage poster commemorating the French Army general Marshal Lyautey (Louis Hubert Gonzalve Lyautey; 1854-1934) and colonial administrator who became known as the French Empire Builder - 1854 Marechal Lyautey 1934 Constructeur De Empire Francais - featuring a great design of the awarded general in military uniform with a sword surrounded by images depicting his achievements as the first French Resident-General in Morocco (1912-1925) who believed in the social and economic rebuilding and urban redevelopment of France's colonies, including men on horses saluting him, cargo being loaded onto ships in a harbour, a cavalry regiment in the background and palm tree on the side with a crescent moon symbol and the stylised text on a banner below. Good condition, staining, restored creasing, restored pinholes, backed on linen.
