The Art Of Tennis And How To Play It

Original vintage movie poster for a film The Art of Tennis and how to play it - Showing the Various Strokes of the Game demonstrated by the Leading Players of England - Showing at this Cinema - Come and See the Game as it should be Played. This silent film was produced by The Parkstone Film Co., Ltd. Lytham and starred several of the leading tennis players in England at the time, including members and winners of the Davis Cup, Olympic Games, Wimbledon and other major championships: John David Patrick Wheatley (1899-1967), Leslie Allison Godfree (1885-1971), John Brian Gilbert (1887-1974), Joan Winifred Austin (1903-1998) and Evelyn Lucy Colyer (1902-1930), with the scenarios and subtitles edited by Mr Stanley Doust, the tennis critic of the Daily Mail with some scenes shown at normal speed then in slow motion. Great design featuring a smiling young lady about to volley a tennis ball across a grass court with the description text on the side against a green background and the title above in stylised blue and black letters. Good condition, restored tears and loss on top left corner and top margin, backed on linen.
