Automoto Bicycles Tours de France

£750.00

Original vintage sport poster published by Automoto - a French manufacturer of bicycles and motorcycles (1898-1962) - to celebrate their consecutive victories in the 1923, 1924 and 1925 Tour de France and French Championships bike races and win in the Criterium des As in 1925. Colourful image of a bike rider wearing a yellow jersey with Automoto on the front and holding a big number 1 sign with the Automoto logo on it with the title text across the centre in big blue letters in a yellow outline, the first letter T symbolising the bicycle of the rider against a bright orange background with yellow rays of sunshine coming out from the bottom of the T. These victories were achieved in 1923 by the French cyclist Henri Pelissier (1889-1935; shot by his lover) and in 1924 and 1925 by the first Italian cyclist to win the Tour de France Ottavio Bottecchia (1894-1927; found murdered by the roadside, some attributing his death to his opposition of Benito Mussolini). Printed by Guillaume & Huot Imp., Paris. Good condition, restored creases and minor loss on top right corner, light staining, backed on linen.
