1940 Summer Olympic Games


[ON RESERVE] Original vintage sport poster for the 1940 Summer Olympic Games - the Games of the XII Olympiad - held in Finland. Dynamic image featuring the sculpture of an athlete running in front of a globe marking the outline of Finland with the Olympic rings displayed above and the text below in stylised white and black letters. Artwork by the Finnish artist Ilmari Sysimetsa (1912-1955). The 1940 Olympic Games were originally due to be held from 21 September - 6 October in Tokyo Japan but they were rescheduled to 20 July - 4 August in Helsinki Finland when the Second Sino-Japanese War broke out in July 1937 (the Games were then suspended from the outbreak of the Second World War until the London Games in 1948). Printed in Finland by A. B. Tilgmann O.Y. Good condition, restored paper loss and tears, staining on right margin, backed on linen.
