Original vintage advertising poster for a theatre production of Ik Dien - spel ter verheerlijking van zuster Beatrijs door Herman Teirlinck Koninklijke Nederlandsche Schouwburg / I Serve - play to glorify Sister Beatrice by Herman Teirlinck at the Royal Dutch Theatre featuring artwork showing a lady sitting on the ground in front of a nun holding her hands together praying and a figure of Jesus Christ on a cross in the background, all with their heads bowed down, the title in bold blue and white lettering below with smaller images between the text and the 22-24 March 1924 weekend performance dates and times above. Herman Louis Cesar Teirlinck (1879-1967) was an award winning Belgian writer; his play Ik Dien premiered in Brussels in 1923 to critical success; the play was an adaptation of the 14th century poem Beatrijs / Beatrice about a nun who falls in love with a man and leaves her convent but returns fourteen years later to discover that Mary (the Mother of Jesus) has been acting in her place. Good condition, folds, tears, paper losses.
