Original antique advertising poster for Pneu Vélo Michelin bike tires featuring an iconic illustration of the Bibendum / Michelin Man character made out of white tyres, riding a bike at speed and smoking a cigar as he frisbees tyres towards the viewer from his midriff, the fun design set against a blue background with text in yellow above - Le Meilleur Le Moins Cher / The Best The Cheapest - and the title text in red with the address in bold black lettering below - Deshaies 77-81 Avenue de la Gare Montargis. The French tire company Michelin was founded 1889; the Michelin character was created by the French cartoonist Marius Rossillon (known as O'Galop; 1867-1946). Large size. Good condition, restored paper losses, restored folds, restored tears, restored creasing, restored stains, ink stamp over lettering, backed on linen.
