Canadian Pacific World Cruise Orient Elephant

£3,500.00

Original vintage travel advertising poster for Canadian Pacific S.S. Empress of France Cruise to the Gateway Ports round the World 14th January 1925 from New York featuring great artwork featuring a decorated Indian elephant in colourful patterns and jewels with silhouettes of domes and minarets in front of bright starry dots on the black background, with the bold lettering above and on the banner below. Founded in 1887, the Canadian Pacific Steamship Company ran passenger, freight and mail services across the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans and became Canada's largest shipping operator; CP Ships merged with TUI AG in 2005 (now part of their Hapag-Lloyd division). Launched in 1913 for Allan Line and originally named the SS Alsatian, the RMS Empress of France was bought by Canadian Pacific in 1919 and was one of four ocean liners to circumnavigate the world in 1923; she was scrapped in Dalmuir Scotland in 1934 and some of her panelling was used for an extension of the St John the Baptist church in Lancashire. Printed in Canada. Good condition, restored paper losses, restored tears, restored pinholes, backed on linen.
