
The Antiques Trade Gazette (ATG) review of the American propaganda posters sold at Swann's sale on 1st August in New York included highlights of these record-making prices:
"Fred Spear's Enlist led the sale, setting a new record for the artist at auction. This extremely rare 1915 poster...published in response to the sinking of the Lusitania by a German U-boat which claimed 128 American lives...sold at the top end of the estimate for $19,000...
Also selling for a record auction price was James Montgomery Flagg's...powerful 1917 propaganda poster I Want You for US Army which sold for almost twice the estmate to make $11,000...
Other American war posters included...This Is The Enemy dated to 1942, which fetched $6,500, You Are Wanted by US Army c.1918 which took $4,600 and Keep US Flying! I Buy War Bonds 1943 which got away at $3,800."
