Original vintage World War Two period poster issued by the Imperial Aeronautic Association of Japan / Dai Nippon Hiko Kyokai in collaboration with the Aviation Bureau and the Information Bureau to commemorate Aviation Day / Koku no hi, a national event established in 1940 and held annually on 20 September (now Sky Day / 空の日 / Sora no Hi), featuring a dramatic high-angle aerial view of a squadron of Japanese bomber planes with the red Hinomaru / Land of the Rising Sun circle on their wings flying over skyscrapers in a city, clearly identifiable as New York City with the iconic Empire State Building in the centre, the bold title text in yellow and red - 敵都を / Teki-to o / To the Enemy Capital - the date and agency sponsors below. Good condition, several restored paper losses, restored tears, backed on linen.

Are your posters originals?

What is a lithograph?

Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.

With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.

Where do you deliver to?

We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
