Original vintage travel poster - Wieliczka Polen / Poland - featuring a colourful design by the Polish painter Henryk Uziemblo (1879-1949) captioned Die Beruhmten Salzbergwerke / The Famous Salt Mines showing an illustration of tourists visiting the mine tunnels between images of miners working on the salt mines with wooden scaffolding and mine carts below the decorative title text above and holding lanterns and tools kneeling and looking up at a chapel sculpture with pillars and coat of arms below. One of the oldest salt mines in the world, the historic Wieliczka salt mine is located in southern Poland on a geological rock salt deposit; the mine is popular for visitors and was listed as a Unesco World Heritage Site in the 1970s; mining was discontinued in 1996. Printed by B. Wierzbicki in Warsaw. Good condition, restored folds, restored tears, staining, backed on linen.

What is a lithograph?
Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
