Original antique travel poster promoting the Stansstad Engelberg Bahn railway in Switzerland featuring a scenic painting by the Austrian artist and cartographer Anton Reckziegel (1865-1936) of a rocky mountain valley with a waterfall running through it and people walking along a road curving round the mountainside by pine trees as a train passes along tracks above, the view leading to snowy mountain peaks in the distance below the cloudy blue sky with a smaller image showing a picturesque town at the foot of mountains above a timetable for the Stansstad-Engelberg electric railway for Summer 1899, the bold white text in stylised lettering on a red banner with flowers through the top. The Stansstad-Engelberg-Bahn opened in 1898 as the longest electric railway in Switzerland at the time, connecting Stansstad village at Lake Lucerne to the Swiss village resort of Engelberg. Good condition, restored tears, restored paper losses, restored creasing, restored folds, ink stamp on top right corner, backed on linen.

What is a lithograph?

Practically all of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves carving each colour of the image onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.

With the exception of silk printing, we believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography. 

Where do you deliver to?

We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £25 for orders placed via our website.
