Original antique train travel poster published by the London, Midland and Scottish Railway featuring a stunning view of the historic Warwick Castle by the landscape painter Adrian Scott Stokes R.A. (1854-1935), depicting the medieval fortress behind trees reflected on the calm water of the River Avon with two elegant white swans near the green river bank and flowering waterlilies on lily pads in the foreground, the bold text with the LMS logo on the margin below. One of a series of posters by Royal Academy artists commissioned by the newly formed LMS company (founded 1923), issued as part of their 1924 advertising campaign that aimed to elevate the standard of commercial railway publicity design. Large size. Horizontal. Printed by McCorquodale and Co Ltd., London. Good condition, restored tears, staining, backed on linen.

What is a lithograph?
Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
