Original vintage post-World War Two map poster for Yorkshire East Riding featuring a colourful design by Ernest Costain Clegg (1876-1954) of the county in north east England with illustrations of notable landmarks and tourist locations including the historic City of York cathedral, Beverley Minster, Burton Agnes and the medieval Walmgate Bar without York gateway, insignias and coats of arms as well as notable historical figures and locations including Sir Tatton Sykes (1826-1913) and William Wilberforce (1759-1833), with images of traditional sailing boats and battleships at sea, information on a crash landing airfield in Carnaby, the Women's Institute and British farms, agriculture and food including potatoes, carrots, sugar beet, flax, barley, sheep, vegetables, milk, wheat and peas, and a quote by Winston Churchill dated 27 January 1940 - Come then: Let us to task, to the battle, to the toil, each to our part, each to our station. Pour out the munitions, strangle the u-boats, sweep the mines, plough the land, build the ships, let us go forward together in all parts of the Empire, in all parts of the Island. There is not a week, nor a day, nor an hour to lose - with roads, castles, trees, rivers and a Scale of Miles at the bottom. Dedicated by Gracious permission to Her Majesty The Queen. What is a lithograph?
Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
