Hastings St Leonards EA Cox Sussex
Original antique travel poster for the historical South Coast towns of Hastings & St Leonards in Sussex featuring stunning artwork by the British painter Elijah Albert Cox (1876-1955) depicting arrows shooting at an English soldier in full armour drawing a sword and holding a shield with a red lion on it, a blooming flower tree in the foreground and flag behind him with a view of the city by the sea and castle on top of the hill in the background, all set against a bright background with the title text on the black border below. Part of the 11th century Norman Conquest of England, the Battle of Hastings in October 1066 between the Norman French army led by William the Duke of Normandy and the English army led by the Anglo-Saxon King Harold Godwinson resulted in the death of King Harold and William the Conqueror being crowned King of England in December 1066. Built by William, Hastings Castle overlooks the English Channel and has been in ruins (caused by storms and attacks) since 1399. Good condition, restored tears, restored creasing, restored folds, backed on linen.

FAQs
More information about our posters and service.
Are your posters originals?
All our antique and vintage posters, books, maps and prints listed on our website are guaranteed originals as detailed in their photographs and descriptions, and include a certificate of authenticity.
What is a lithograph?
Practically all of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves carving each colour of the image onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, we believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £25 for orders placed via our website.
