Original vintage Air-India travel poster titled Shikar India featuring a stunning illustration adapted from an old Indian painting depicting the Air India mascot - the Maharaja (created in 1946 by Bobby Kooka and Umesh Rao) - riding a horse with a man fighting a lion using a spear in the foreground. Shikar refers to an organised colonial hunting sport dating back to the 18th century when army officers and civil servants began hunting tigers, bears, antelope, elephants and other exotic wild game. Printed in India. Good condition, minor paper loss on the margin, light creasing on the margins, browning.

Are your posters originals?

What is a lithograph?
Practically all of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves carving each colour of the image onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, we believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £25 for orders placed via our website.
Can I visit your gallery?
Yes. Our gallery is based in London. Our address is 404 King's Road, Chelsea, London SW10 0LJ.
Our opening hours are Monday-Friday 10am-6pm; Saturday 11am-5pm (by appointment only on Sundays and bank holidays*).
