Original vintage travel poster issued by the Underground Electric Railway Company Ltd: Overcome the difficulty of the journey Travel by Underground. Stunning black and white design by Frederick Charles Herrick (1887-1970) of a muscular man fighting and slaying the Nemean lion under the title - Hercules - depicting the first of the Twelve Labours of Hercules from Greek mythology - with the stylised text below. The London Electric Railway (LER; 1910-1933) operated three lines on the London Underground until it was merged into the London Passenger Transport Board. Printed by Sanders and Phillips Co. Very good condition, restored tears on margin, light marks, backed on linen.

What is a lithograph?
Practically all of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves carving each colour of the image onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, we believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £25 for orders placed via our website.
Can I visit your gallery?
Yes. Our gallery is based in London. Our address is 404 King's Road, Chelsea, London SW10 0LJ.
Our opening hours are Monday-Friday 10am-6pm; Saturday 11am-5pm (by appointment only on Sundays and bank holidays*).
